 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 253
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
 1-4     in recognizing Barbara Perez for her many contributions to the
 1-5     City of El Paso; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Born in New Mexico and raised there, she moved to
 1-7     El Paso in 1966; Barbara Perez is married to Paul Perez, and they
 1-8     are the parents of one girl and two boys; they are the loving
 1-9     grandparents of one granddaughter; and
1-10           WHEREAS, In 1971 she became the first woman insurance
1-11     adjuster in the State of Texas; Barbara Perez was also named
1-12     the first female marketing director for Coors Beer in 1974; she
1-13     is an excellent role model for young women; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A member of the El Paso City Council since
1-15     June, 1993, she has been reelected twice and greatly loves
1-16     and enjoys serving her city; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Representative Perez believes in encouraging
1-18     job opportunities for women as well as men, thinks that elected
1-19     officials should be honest, and is the sponsor of a resolution
1-20     for the city council stating that any citizen appearing before
1-21     the council would be allowed to speak either English or Spanish;
1-22     and
1-23           WHEREAS, Active in civic endeavors, Barbara Perez is a
1-24     member of the Hispanic Leadership Institute, is on the Board
 2-1     of Directors of Norwest Bank of El Paso and the El Paso Housing
 2-2     Finance Corporation, and is a member of the Lower Valley Young
 2-3     Men's Christian Association Advisory Board; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, She received the City of El Paso Conquistador
 2-5     Award in 1993, was recognized by the United States Air Defense
 2-6     Artillery Center at Fort Bliss for her contributions to the
 2-7     El Paso-Fort Bliss communities, and received Honorable Mention
 2-8     for the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, In all her activities, Representative Perez has
2-10     given 100 percent of her care, warmth, and abilities; El Paso is
2-11     fortunate indeed to count this lady as one of its most dedicated
2-12     leaders; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     76th Legislature, hereby applaud the many achievements of
2-15     Barbara Perez; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     her as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the
2-18     Texas Senate.
