1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254 1-2 WHEREAS, With the retirement of Bob Osborne, head baseball 1-3 coach at Burges High School in El Paso, an exciting and important 1-4 chapter in the annals of Texas high school baseball comes to a 1-5 close; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Coach Osborne began his illustrious coaching career 1-7 as head baseball coach in 1969 at Burges High School, and he has 1-8 guided his players in 808 games while at the same school; and 1-9 WHEREAS, For 29 years, Bob Osborne has coached the Burges 1-10 Mustangs, and he has been called the epitome of El Paso high school 1-11 baseball; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Bob Osborne's ability to teach young people the game 1-13 of baseball and the game of life has been one of his most notable 1-14 characteristics; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The coach took his 1983 team to the state tournament 1-16 in Austin, where only Texas' four regional champions play; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman coached the Mustangs to 1-18 a 16-10 record last year and a trip to the Class 4A area playoffs, 1-19 where they were defeated by Frenship 13-9; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A mentor to his junior varsity coach, John Beard, 1-21 Coach Osborne has passed along the reins of leadership to 1-22 Coach Beard, who graduated from Burges in 1986; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Coach Osborne has been dedicated to his work in 1-24 athletics, and his enthusiastic spirit motivated and inspired his 2-1 students; he leaves his profession with no regrets and with a 2-2 career record of 505-298-5; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby commend the career of service of 2-5 Coach Bob Osborne and thank him for his contributions to his 2-6 school, city, and state; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-8 as an expression of the esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-9 Shapleigh 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on February 22, 1999. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
