1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 257
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-3     recognize Stan Roberts of El Paso for his many contributions to
 1-4     his community; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born in Venice, California, he graduated from
 1-6     Venice High School in 1946 and enlisted in the United States Army
 1-7     two months later; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Stan Roberts married Jetta Hollywood in 1948, and
 1-9     they had four children:  Michael Norman, Jetta Lynn McDonald,
1-10     Beverly Ann Roberts, and Stan Douglas Roberts; their children have
1-11     presented Mr. and Mrs. Roberts with seven grandchildren; and
1-12           WHEREAS, While serving in the United States Army for
1-13     28 years, Stan was stationed in Texas, New Jersey, California, the
1-14     South Pacific, Germany, and Japan; he retired in 1974 with 28 years
1-15     of superb service, and he was hired at Fort Bliss as a civilian
1-16     lead instructor; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Since Mr. Roberts has become a civilian, he has
1-18     heavily involved himself in civic activities; he assisted in
1-19     organizing the Northeast El Paso Civic Association, and he led the
1-20     effort that resulted in a referendum changing the city council from
1-21     an at-large system to today's single-member district system; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In 1991, Stan Roberts was elected to the El Paso City
1-23     Council and reelected in 1993; he continues to serve a fourth term
1-24     today as the Northeast city representative and the alternate mayor
 2-1     pro tempore; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, One of the four founding fathers of the Citizens for
 2-3     Responsible Government, Mr. Roberts served for three years on the
 2-4     charter commission that wrote the new city charter and was president
 2-5     of the Northeast El Paso Civic Association for four years; his
 2-6     contributions to his city have been extensive; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     76th Legislature, hereby commend Stan Roberts of El Paso for his
 2-9     outstanding achievements and for his devoted service to his city;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-12     as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
