 1-3                                  In Memory
 1-4                                     of
 1-5                             Victor C. Castillo
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of El Paso in mourning the tragic loss of Victor C. Castillo,
 1-8     who died January 21, 1999, at the age of 43; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Victor "The Hammer" Castillo was a lifelong
1-10     El Paso resident and had worked for 21 years for the El Paso
1-11     Fire Department; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Victor joined the El Paso Fire Department in 1978;
1-13     he was promoted to the position of fire suppression technician in
1-14     1986 and was assigned to drive Pumper 21 at Fire Station Number 21;
1-15     and
1-16           WHEREAS, Victor was dedicated to his work as a firefighter
1-17     and consistently displayed dependability, courage, and tenacity;
1-18     he died of injuries sustained in a training accident; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Firefighters and the
1-20     International Association of Firefighters presented the Medal
1-21     of Honor to Mr. Castillo posthumously since he died in the line
1-22     of duty; the medal is the highest award given to a firefighter
1-23     by the International Association of Firefighters; and
1-24           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who was beloved by his
 2-1     colleagues, Victor was respected in the community for his expertise
 2-2     as a firefighter and for his many accomplishments; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
 2-4     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
 2-5     valor, and determination will not be forgotten by those who knew
 2-6     him; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Victor Castillo was a devoted husband and father,
 2-8     and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
 2-9     his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-12     bereaved family of Victor C. Castillo:  his wife, Judith Castillo;
2-13     his parents, Clement and Catherine Castillo; his stepdaughter,
2-14     April McGlothlin; and his eight brothers and sisters; and, be it
2-15     further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-17     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-18     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-19     in memory of Victor Castillo.
