1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 261 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Rear Admiral Dennis R. Conley, who is retiring after 1-5 an outstanding career in the United States Navy; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Admiral Conley graduated from the United States Naval 1-7 Academy in 1963 and from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey 1-8 in 1971; his first assignment was serving as an anti-submarine 1-9 officer on the destroyer USS Prichett, and subsequent sea tours 1-10 included serving as an engineer officer on the USS Frank Knox 1-11 and as chief of staff/operations officer for Commander Destroyer 1-12 Division Thirty-Two; and 1-13 WHEREAS, After attending the Armed Forces Staff College, he 1-14 served as head of the Officer Procurement Plans Section at the 1-15 Bureau of Naval Personnel; after an Executive Officer Tour on the 1-16 USS Brumby, he returned to Washington, D.C., to serve in the Navy 1-17 Office of Legislative Affairs; and 1-18 WHEREAS, He joined the Pacific Fleet in 1979, and in 1983, 1-19 he served as the Deputy Special Assistant for Joint Matters in 1-20 the Office of the Director, Joint Staff, Organization of the 1-21 Joint Chief of Staff; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Admiral Conley returned to sea as commander of 1-23 the USS Halsey in 1985, and the ship was awarded two consecutive 1-24 Battle Efficiency "E" awards; in 1988, he was named Deputy Director 2-1 of the Surface Combat Systems Division in the Office of the 2-2 Assistant Chief of Naval Operations; and 2-3 WHEREAS, He served as the Deputy Director of the 2-4 Expeditionary Warfare Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval 2-5 Operations in Washington, D.C., and subsequently served as Commander 2-6 of the Amphibious Force, United States Seventh Fleet and Commander 2-7 of Amphibious Group One; in October of 1996, he became Commander of 2-8 the Mine Warfare Command in Corpus Christi, Texas; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Accolades for Admiral Conley's exceptional Naval 2-10 service include such decorations as the Defense Superior Service 2-11 Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the 2-12 Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Unit 2-13 Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Admiral Conley has been 2-15 blessed with the support and love of his family; he is married to 2-16 Noriko Fuchino Conley and has two children, Lisa and Kenneth; his 2-17 retirement ceremony takes place February 19, 1999, at Naval Station 2-18 Ingleside aboard the USS Inchon; and 2-19 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman whose valor and patriotism 2-20 has been inspirational to countless men and women in our country's 2-21 service, Admiral Conley deserves recognition for his years of 2-22 superior service in the Navy and his support and defense of our 2-23 nation's ideals; now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-25 76th Legislature, hereby commend Rear Admiral Dennis R.
