1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 268 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the Midland High School Bulldogs for winning the 1-4 1998 Class 5A state basketball championship; and 1-5 WHEREAS, With indomitable fighting spirit and drive, the 1-6 Bulldogs overcame some of the most formidable Class 5A teams in 1-7 the state in their march to victory before clinching the title 1-8 with a 63-51 win over San Antonio Taft; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The team devoted much time and energy to practicing 1-10 the fundamental skills of the game and displayed disciplined 1-11 teamwork in their excellent showing against their opponents; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the 1-13 team's exceptional talent and to their consistent preparation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Coach Jack Stephenson, his assistant coaches, 1-15 Rusty Frazier, George Riebe, and Craig Raughton, and trainer 1-16 Morris Williamson, student trainer Katie Green, statistician 1-17 Ben Morris, and dedicated and talented team players, Charles Tatum, 1-18 Jason Williams, Kris O'Brian, Blake Johnston, Jessie Nicholson, 1-19 Geoffrey Jameson, Chris Oldham, Ross Nobles, Jay Christian, 1-20 Patrick Anderson, Taylor Moody, Brent Winter, Erik Pettersson, 1-21 Chris Cox, Kirby Lemons, Camar Jackson, Melvin Jackson, Josh Fernau, 1-22 Antoine Lathan, and Randy Gardner deserve recognition for the team's 1-23 efforts and flawless performance; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The Midland High School Bulldogs proved themselves 2-1 champions in every sense of the word, and the Texas Senate is proud 2-2 to honor them; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the coaches and players 2-5 of Midland High School for their well-earned laurels in winning 2-6 the 1998 Class 5A state basketball championship and applaud the 2-7 team for a job well done; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-9 excellent team as a token of the admiration and esteem of the 2-10 Texas Senate. 2-11 Bivins 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the above 2-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-16 on February 22, 1999. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Secretary of the Senate 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
