 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     congratulate the members of the Midland Lee High School Rebels for
 1-5     their victory over the San Antonio MacArthur High School Brahmas to
 1-6     win the 1998 Class 5A state football championship; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Lee Rebels beat the MacArthur Brahmas by a score
 1-8     of 54-0, which stands as the largest point margin of any Class 5A
 1-9     championship game; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Deserving of recognition, the gifted members of the
1-11     Rebels team displayed awesome talent and drive; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Exhibiting their extraordinary ability and
1-13     perseverance throughout the season were J. R. Norman, Matt Seguija,
1-14     Issac Washington, Michael Wynn, Jonathan Rogers, Derrick Walker,
1-15     Eric Neatherlin, J. R. Brown, Kody Matthews, Chris McCullough,
1-16     T. J. Glover, Eric Clodfelter, Juan Saucedo, Jerad Calobreves,
1-17     J. P. Ratliff, Traveres Webb, Charles Winstead, Cedric Benson,
1-18     Allen Griffith, Clint McNutt, Jonathan Heredia, Eric Middleton,
1-19     Joe Norman, Drew Anderson, Trey Atwater, Bobby Subia, Brian Fowler
1-20     Adam Wilson, Paul Anderson, Brett Owens, Jason Matthews, Jerod Shaw,
1-21     David Dakil, Andy Brewster, Ryan Almand, Ben Chester, Ryan Wright,
1-22     Colby Marcum, Chris Madrid, Sam Bailey, Justin Painter, Josh Miller,
1-23     Sammy Hall, Steve Subia, Domingo Magana, Ankur Patel, Roan Moreno,
1-24     Randy Whitaker, Rex Richards, Robert Merydith, Mark Martinez,
 2-1     Scott Worley, Jarred Martin, David Rodgers, Kevin Borrego,
 2-2     Brad Woodard, J. J. Jackson, and Joe Melendaz; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Head Coach John Parchman and his assistant
 2-4     coaches, J. C. Gotcher, Scott Hicks, Randy Josey, Corby Maurer,
 2-5     Joel Gotcher, Mike Meeks, Danny Neighbors, Kelvin Ratliff,
 2-6     Ronnie Reeger, Randy Smith, and Dennis Bryant, deserve to be proud
 2-7     of their efforts and outstanding performance; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, By capturing the state championship title, all team
 2-9     members have clearly demonstrated their winning spirit, discipline,
2-10     and courage; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Their team unity, exceptional skills, and respect
2-12     for the highest ideals of American sportsmanship have brought honor
2-13     to the school and to the community; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-15     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Midland Lee High School
2-16     Rebels for winning the 1998 Class 5A championship title and extend
2-17     appreciation to the school's athletic director, Tim Whalen, the
2-18     principal, George Cooper, and the superintendent, Joseph Baressi,
2-19     for their outstanding leadership; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-21     Midland Lee High School Rebels as an expression of high esteem from
2-22     the Texas Senate.
