 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 273
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
 1-4     pleasure in recognizing the Dallas Assembly for its contributions
 1-5     to the City of Dallas; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A unique organization for leaders of Dallas, the
 1-7     assembly was founded in 1962 to furnish a platform for community
 1-8     leaders to talk about national, state, and local issues; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The Dallas Assembly also provides a setting for
1-10     making professional contacts and for networking with other leading
1-11     citizens; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Membership in this select group is limited to 150
1-13     people who have demonstrated leadership in religious, business,
1-14     civic, education, or government areas; the members are between 35
1-15     and 50 years old; and
1-16           WHEREAS, With a mission to educate and inform leaders, the
1-17     Dallas Assembly represents a diverse group of individuals who seek
1-18     an interchange of ideas and positive dialogue; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The membership of this body has been recognized for
1-20     its high caliber, and it has included elected officials, persons
1-21     who volunteer much time and work to civic endeavors, and leaders
1-22     of the arts; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Reaching its goals through monthly luncheons with
1-24     speaker programs, the assembly also has eight informal meetings
 2-1     with discussion groups, two special events, and one annual seminar;
 2-2     and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Speakers for the assembly have included John Silber,
 2-4     Kay Bailey Hutchison, Al Gore, and Margaret Thatcher; in addition,
 2-5     the group is noted for its role in bringing together Dallas leaders
 2-6     to work on problems relevant to the whole community; now, therefore,
 2-7     be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Assembly for its
2-10     excellent performance on behalf of Dallas and its citizenry
2-11     as well as the State of Texas; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-13     expression of the highest regard and esteem of the Texas Senate.
