1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 306 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas congratulates the 1-3 Balcones Big League Softball Team from Austin, Texas, for winning 1-4 the 1998 Big League State Championship; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The 16-to-18-year-old girls on the team were elated 1-6 to become the first Balcones boys or girls team to ever win a state 1-7 championship, and they won the title in July with scores of 11-1 1-8 and 5-1 in the Waco tournament over a Fort Worth District team; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Team manager Kevin Mercer was rightfully proud of 1-10 the 1998 members of the championship team who were Allyson Ligon, 1-11 Jennifer Munoz, Paula Yuma, Stephanie Campbell, Christina Cruz, 1-12 Sarah Mercer, Sarah Miller, Tamara Birchman, Sarah Blacksmith, 1-13 Catherine Mendoza, Sarah Chappell, Alicia Yuma, Chryssa Delgado, 1-14 and Patricia Hunteman; together these outstanding athletes played 1-15 with an unbeatable unity of team play; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Effectively controlling the Fort Worth team's 1-17 ability to score, the Balcones team pitchers, Chryssa Delgado, 1-18 Sarah Miller, and Patricia Hunteman, allowed their team to control 1-19 the scoring in the games with its powerful offensive ability; now, 1-20 therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 76th Legislature, hereby commend the Balcones Big League Softball 1-23 Team from Austin for winning the 1998 Big League State Championship 1-24 and for becoming the first team in the 31-year history of play for 2-1 the Balcones League to do so; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-3 the champion Balcones Big League Softball Team as an expression of 2-4 esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-5 Barrientos 2-6 ______________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the above 2-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-10 on March 1, 1999. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
