1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 309 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize the citizens of Gainesville on the joyous occasion of 1-4 Gainesville Day, which takes place March 24, 1999; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This event provides the citizens of Gainesville with 1-6 an opportunity to rejoice in the amenities of their outstanding 1-7 city and to take pride in its unique contributions to the 1-8 State of Texas; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Established in 1850 and originally a point on the 1-10 California Trail, Gainesville is the seat of Cooke County and the 1-11 gateway to Texas on two major cross-country highways; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Located in Northeast Texas near the rolling hills of 1-13 the Cross Timbers region, Gainesville is a favorite among tourists 1-14 who can enjoy its recreational facilities and historic sites; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Gainesville is noted for its brick-paved streets and 1-16 19th century brick Victorian homes; in addition to approximately 26 1-17 historic homes, places of interest include the firehouse and the 1-18 Episcopal Church, built in 1884, and the First Methodist Church, 1-19 built in 1892; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Local citizens and tourists also enjoy the 1-21 Frank Buck Zoo, named in honor of the adventurer and Gainesville 1-22 native, Frank Buck, as well as the Morton Museum of Cooke County, 1-23 which exhibits all facets of pioneer life; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Gainesville residents are hardworking, generous, and 2-1 hospitable, and they have successfully preserved the beauty and 2-2 charm of their city; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Gainesville and 2-5 extend best wishes to them for a rewarding and celebratory 2-6 Gainesville Day; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-8 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-9 Haywood 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on March 1, 1999. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
