 1-4                                     of
 1-5                             Mary Lander Keever
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Houston and Austin in mourning the loss of
 1-8     Mary Lander Keever, who died March 1, 1999, at the age of 90;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born February 3, 1909, in Lincoln County,
1-11     North Carolina, Mary Keever was the daughter of a Methodist
1-12     minister and his wife, Reverend and Mrs. George L. Keever; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mary attended Southern Methodist University in
1-14     Dallas and earned a master's degree from the University of
1-15     Mexico in Mexico City; she later taught English and Spanish to
1-16     many impoverished children in El Paso, Texas, and Alamogordo,
1-17     New Mexico; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mary was dedicated to her career as an
1-19     educational therapist at the Veterans Hospital in Houston, where
1-20     she worked for many years; she also served as a receptionist in
1-21     the Human Resources Office in the Texas State Senate; and
1-22           WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Mary was beloved by many and
1-23     was respected for her accomplishments; she had an engaging
1-24     personality and an inspirational lust for life and love of
 2-1     people; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, She formed many deep and lasting friendships and
 2-3     enriched the lives of all who were close to her; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, compassion, and
 2-5     generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her
 2-6     wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will continue to be cherished
 2-7     by those who knew her; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Mary Keever was a devoted sister and aunt who
 2-9     lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves behind memories that
2-10     will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now,
2-11     therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-14     bereaved family of Mary Lander Keever:  her sister and
2-15     brother-in-law, Koren K. and Joe Cariker; her niece,
2-16     Deborah Cariker Burns; her nephews, William "Bill" B. Cariker,
2-17     Leigh Charles Cariker, and Henry G. Holcomb; and her four
2-18     great-nieces; and, be it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-20     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-21     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
2-22     so in memory of Mary Lander Keever.
