 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 340
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     joining the citizens of Richardson on the joyous occasion of
 1-5     Richardson Legislative Day at the State Capitol on March 9, 1999;
 1-6     and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Originally called Breckenridge before the Civil War
 1-8     era, the town of Richardson grew around a new station on the T&NO
 1-9     Railroad built in the area in 1872; the city was renamed for a
1-10     railroad official, A. S. Richardson; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Located in northeastern Dallas County, Richardson
1-12     is noted for the Richardson Telecom Corridor, a commercial and
1-13     industrial area that is occupied by more than 500 high technology
1-14     and telecommunications firms; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The city also has 27 parks that cover 1,014 acres
1-16     and offer fitness trails, swimming pools, and tennis courts; the
1-17     city is home to Owens Spring Creek Farm, a commercial sausage-making
1-18     firm that maintains a museum and a showcase farm with Belgian horses
1-19     and Shetland ponies; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The Richardson Chamber of Commerce and its affiliated
1-21     Telecom Corridor Technology Business Council have played a major
1-22     role in establishing the harmony that exists between business and
1-23     government in the Richardson area; the Technology Business Council
1-24     is the first of its kind in Texas and one of a small but growing
 2-1     number across the nation; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Richardson is known for its high-quality schools
 2-3     and colleges and is nationally recognized for its Wildflower Arts
 2-4     and Music Festival and Cottonwood Arts Festival; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Richardson Legislative Day at the State Capitol
 2-6     provides the citizens of the region with an opportunity to rejoice
 2-7     in the amenities of their outstanding city and to take pride in its
 2-8     unique contributions to the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     76th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Richardson
2-11     and the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the Telecom Corridor
2-12     Technology Business Council on their fruitful collaboration and
2-13     extend to them best wishes for a rewarding Richardson Legislative
2-14     Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-16     for the City of Richardson as an expression of esteem from the
2-17     Texas Senate.
