 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     recognize the planned Women's Museum:  An Institute for the
 1-5     Future, to be built on the grounds of Fair Park in Dallas by
 1-6     the year 2000; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Announcing the creation of the museum by the
 1-8     Foundation of Women's Resources, the president of the group,
 1-9     Cathy Bonner, has received many communications of support for
1-10     the project, including letters from the National Trust for
1-11     Historic Preservation, Preservation Dallas, and the
1-12     International Coalition of Art Deco Societies; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The Peter Wolf Hall of Administration in Fair Park
1-14     has been on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list
1-15     of 11 Most Endangered Historic Sites and is on the list of
1-16     Preservation Dallas's 10 Most Endangered Buildings list; it is
1-17     the former State Fair Coliseum, also known as the Peter Wolf
1-18     Building; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The proposed museum will highlight the role of women
1-20     in our culture, commerce, politics, art, music, and the sciences;
1-21     the historic museum will be funded mainly through private donations
1-22     and grants; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The Women's Museum:  An Institute for the Future
1-24     will feature interactive displays, a Women's Walk of Fame, and a
 2-1     300-seat theater for films, lectures, and live performances; it
 2-2     will draw nearly 500,000 visitors a year as predicted by the
 2-3     organizers, and museumgoers will have the opportunity to hold
 2-4     virtual conversations with Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, and
 2-5     Eleanor Roosevelt; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The museum's dual mission will be to honor the past
 2-7     while giving people a glance at the possibilities in the future;
 2-8     now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Foundation of Women's
2-11     Resources, the City of Dallas, and the National Trust for
2-12     Historic Preservation for supporting the creation of this
2-13     unique undertaking; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-15     expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
