 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 343
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing the Laredo Commission for Women and the Laredo Women's
 1-5     Hall of Fame; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Laredo Commission for Women was founded in 1994;
 1-7     the commission established the Laredo Women's Hall of Fame as a
 1-8     means of bringing recognition to those women throughout the city
 1-9     who have given generously of their time and expertise to the
1-10     betterment of Laredo; the first honorees were inducted in 1995;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, The commission has chosen 10 women for induction
1-13     into the Laredo Women's Hall of Fame for 1999; the women chosen
1-14     this year have demonstrated courage throughout their personal and
1-15     professional lives, a willingness to collaborate with others to
1-16     achieve a common goal, and the initiative to take action on issues
1-17     when action is needed; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The outstanding women who have been selected for
1-19     this year's Laredo Women's Hall of Fame are Julie S. Watson,
1-20     Minerva G. Ramirez, Cynthia Mares Jackson, Dr. Hermelinda Murillo,
1-21     Sister Mary de Lellis Trevino, Captain Blasa B. Bluhm,
1-22     Mary Guevara Capello, Sharon Marie Cruz, Alicia Vela Cantu,
1-23     and Sister Mary Helen Archibald, O. S. U.; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The commission has inducted these women into
 2-1     the Laredo Women's Hall of Fame under the categories of arts,
 2-2     business and professional leadership, civic and volunteer
 2-3     leadership, education, health and environment, law enforcement,
 2-4     legal, media and communications, and politics; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, All of these women have distinguished themselves
 2-6     in their professions and are active leaders in numerous community
 2-7     organizations, and through their hard work and tenacity, they have
 2-8     had a positive impact on the City of Laredo and on our state; now,
 2-9     therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Laredo Commission for
2-12     Women and its Laredo Women's Hall of Fame on paying tribute
2-13     to these exceptional women and extend congratulations to the
2-14     1999 inductees on earning this recognition; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-16     the Laredo Commission for Women as an expression of esteem from
2-17     the Texas Senate.
