 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 349
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
 1-4     in recognizing Johnathan Colby McMahon, who has made substantial
 1-5     contributions to his community and his fellow citizens; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, When he was born on December 31, 1985, Johnathan
 1-7     weighed two pounds and nine ounces and was three months premature;
 1-8     his first year was a difficult one for his parents because
 1-9     Johnathan needed an apnea monitor to continuously check his heart
1-10     rate and breathing; and
1-11           WHEREAS, When Johnathan was five years old, he won third
1-12     place in the 38-pound division in wrestling; he is a superior
1-13     athlete and an avid basketball and football player; his talent
1-14     in athletics is well known; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Now a healthy and hearty student in the seventh
1-16     grade in Rockwall, Johnathan attended Terrell Christian Academy
1-17     until he was in the sixth grade, when he attended Herman E. Utley
1-18     Middle School; and
1-19           WHEREAS, An excellent student, the outstanding young man
1-20     has maintained an A/B average since kindergarten; an enthusiastic
1-21     student in Honors Reading, Johnathan greatly enjoys studying
1-22     Spanish and English, and he obtains a lot of satisfaction from
1-23     writing poetry; and
1-24           WHEREAS, A civic-minded young man, he participated in the
 2-1     joint yearly project of State Representative Dale Tillery's
 2-2     office and Seagoville State Bank by helping to repair, scrape,
 2-3     and paint the home of Seagoville resident Mr. Rosebud when he
 2-4     was 11 years old; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Next year, this outstanding young man assisted
 2-6     again in the project, this time helping to caulk, to scrape
 2-7     windows, and to paint the house of a single mother; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Johnathan comes from a wonderfully supportive
 2-9     family; it includes his mother and father, Wendy and
2-10     Patrick McMahon; his sisters, Brittney and Brooke McMahon; and
2-11     his grandparents, Karen McMahon and George and Joyce Williams;
2-12     and
2-13           WHEREAS, The personal and scholastic accomplishments of
2-14     Johnathan McMahon demonstrate his unique and sterling character;
2-15     his devotion to his family, athletics, and the welfare of his
2-16     fellow citizens, as well as his distinctive leadership abilities,
2-17     make him a young Texan of whom his loved ones are justly proud;
2-18     he is certainly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore,
2-19     be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     76th Legislature, hereby commend Johnathan Colby McMahon for his
2-22     contributions to his community and his fellow Texans; and, be it
2-23     further
2-24           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-25     him as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the
2-26     Texas Senate.
