 1-4                                     of
 1-5                            MaryLou Trevino-Lopez
 1-6           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of MaryLou Trevino-Lopez
 1-7     on March 10, 1998, at the age of 49, has brought great sorrow
 1-8     and loss to the family and many friends of this remarkable woman;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez was born on December 1, 1948,
1-11     in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; she immigrated to the
1-12     United States in 1958 with her family and lived the American
1-13     dream; she grew up in Houston's East End community and graduated
1-14     from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1968; Mrs. Trevino-Lopez
1-15     attended Houston Community College and graduated from the
1-16     University of Houston, where she obtained her bachelor's and
1-17     master's degrees in bilingual education; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez married the love of her life,
1-19     Fernando Lopez, on January 9, 1982, and they were blessed with
1-20     four beautiful children, Javier Luis, Adrian Alejandro,
1-21     Maria Fernanda, and Francisco Rogelio; together they created a
1-22     home filled with much love and many joyful memories; and
1-23           WHEREAS, MaryLou Trevino-Lopez was a dedicated employee
1-24     of the Ripley House, the Downtown Young Men's Christian Association,
 2-1     the Honorable Barbara Jordan, and most notably, the Houston
 2-2     Independent School District; as an educator for the past 20 years,
 2-3     she touched the lives and hearts of many students, especially at
 2-4     Anson Jones, DeZavala, and Love elementary schools; she served
 2-5     as a vanguard coordinator and most recently as a curriculum
 2-6     specialist, and one of her greatest honors was being recognized
 2-7     in 1995 as Teacher of the Year for the Houston Independent School
 2-8     District; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez was blessed with unshakeable
2-10     strength to courageously battle breast cancer; she was a devout
2-11     member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and her tremendous
2-12     faith in God was an inspiration to all; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez leaves a legacy of genuine
2-14     compassion, kindness, and unselfish love for others that will
2-15     remain cherished by those fortunate enough to have shared her
2-16     life; she will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18     76th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
2-19     MaryLou Trevino-Lopez and extend sincere sympathy to the
2-20     members of her family:  her husband, Fernando Lopez; her
2-21     children, Javier Luis, Adrian Alejandro, Maria Fernanda, and
2-22     Francisco Rogelio; her mother, Luisa Trevino; her mother-in-law,
2-23     Maria Serna Lopez; her brothers and their spouses, Calixto and
2-24     Rosemary, Victor, Jr., and Silvia, and John and Elma; her sisters
2-25     and their spouses, Ramona and Mike, Maria and Leonard, Magdalena
2-26     and Roy, Nelly and Tom, and Gloria; her sister-in-law and her
 3-1     spouse, Leticia and Miguel; and to all the other relatives and
 3-2     countless friends of this wonderful woman; and, be it further
 3-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 3-4     prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest
 3-5     sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns
 3-6     this day, it do so in memory of MaryLou Trevino-Lopez.
