 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 355
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing the members of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature
 1-5     as they gather at the State Capitol on March 11, 1999; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate is especially pleased to welcome
 1-7     Gaston West, Speaker, Corpus Christi, Texas; Jim Cowgill, Speaker
 1-8     Pro Tem, Dallas, Texas; Thomas Perkins, Deputy Speaker Pro Tem,
 1-9     Smiley, Texas; Dolores Tousigant, Secretary, Moulton, Texas;
1-10     Oris Greever, Comptroller, Abilene, Texas; John W. Holtermann,
1-11     Chairman, Legislature Action Committee, San Marcos, Texas;
1-12     Charlotte Parks, Vice Chairman, Legislature Action Committee,
1-13     Ben Wheeler, Texas; and Bill Cummings, Secretary, Legislature
1-14     Action Committee, Lockhart, Texas; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Citizen participation in the governmental process
1-16     is one of the cornerstones of democracy, and organizations that
1-17     foster this participation perform an essential function; one such
1-18     group is the Silver-Haired Legislature, and the public-spirited
1-19     men and women that comprise this body are indeed deserving of
1-20     special praise and recognition; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Elected for two-year terms, the members of
1-22     the Silver-Haired Legislature convene to develop legislation
1-23     and policy initiatives for presentation to the state legislature,
1-24     with particular emphasis on issues of interest to older Texans;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, These vital and valued members of their
 2-3     communities volunteer their time and talent to serve with the
 2-4     organization, and in sharing their years of wisdom and experience
 2-5     they provide legislators with valuable insight into the needs
 2-6     and priorities of the elderly; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The Silver-Haired Legislature's many
 2-8     contributions to the welfare of the Lone Star State have
 2-9     benefitted not only senior citizens but Texans of all ages, and
2-10     it is to be hoped that this worthy group's efforts will continue
2-11     for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby commend the representatives of the
2-14     Texas Silver-Haired Legislature for their efforts on behalf
2-15     of all senior Texans and extend best wishes to them for a
2-16     most productive and rewarding legislative session; and, be it
2-17     further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-19     this distinguished group as an expression of the high regard and
2-20     appreciation of the Texas Senate.
