1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 376 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Emilie Straus 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-7 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Emilie Straus, 1-8 who died February 18, 1999, at the age of 99; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Emilie Straus was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 1-10 and she lived most of her early life in Birmingham, Alabama; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Emilie attended Columbia University in 1922, and 1-13 there she met and married her husband, Joe R. Straus of 1-14 San Antonio, who was attending the University of Pennsylvania; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, Mrs. Straus was a founding 1-17 member and former president of the Charity Ball Association, was 1-18 active with the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, and was a founding 1-19 member of the Green Hand Garden Club; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentlewoman, she was 1-21 respected for her many accomplishments and was a leader in her 1-22 community; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Straus was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, 1-24 and great-grandmother, and she leaves memories which will be 2-1 treasured always by her family and many friends; now, therefore, 2-2 be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the 2-5 members of her family: her sons, David J. Straus and 2-6 Joe R. Straus, Jr.; her grandchildren, David J. Straus III, 2-7 Fredric "Tony" Straus, Steve P. Straus, Daniel Straus, Lyn Selig, 2-8 Joe Straus III, and Susan Straus Kroll; and her 15 2-9 great-grandchildren; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-11 the family of Mrs. Joe R.
