1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 381
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing Texas Southern University and in proclaiming Wednesday,
 1-4     March 10, 1999, as Texas Southern University Legislative Day; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Founded in 1926, Texas Southern University moved to
 1-6     a permanent 65-acre campus in 1947; in the following 20-year
 1-7     period, the student enrollment increased from 2,303 to 4,569 and
 1-8     the faculty grew from over 100 to 225 members; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Today, Texas Southern University offers degrees in
1-10     a wide variety of undergraduate programs to more than 10,000
1-11     students, and the university is fortunate to have exceptionally
1-12     fine administrators and faculty members; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The members of the board of trustees, the faculty,
1-14     and the administration of Texas Southern University are committed
1-15     to providing the students of our state with a first-rate education,
1-16     and their success is evident in the excellent reputation the
1-17     university enjoys today; now, therefore, be it
1-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
1-19     76th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Texas Southern
1-20     University on its many contributions to our state and extend best
1-21     wishes to all who are participating in Texas Southern University
1-22     Legislative Day; and, be it further
1-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
1-24     university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
