 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 383
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing Southern Floral Company on the grand occasion of its
 1-5     72nd anniversary; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Southern Floral Company was established in 1927 in
 1-7     Houston, Texas, by J. W. Weatherford, Sr.; originally, the company
 1-8     was managed by four people and today it employs over 200 people in
 1-9     four cities, Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi, and Dallas; and
1-10           WHEREAS, One of the oldest and largest wholesale floral
1-11     companies in the Southwestern United States, Southern Floral
1-12     Company is still a family-owned business; Robert H. Weatherford
1-13     serves as chairman, Robert H. Weatherford, Jr., as president, and
1-14     Bryan Weatherford as executive vice president; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The company, along with its sister company
1-16     TransAmerica Floral Imports, provides the finest in cut flowers
1-17     imported from around the world, and each location maintains a
1-18     complete line of floral decorator supplies, including silk and
1-19     dried flowers; the company is able to access products from Mexico,
1-20     Central America, and South America and provides its customers with
1-21     the foremost variety of roses and selected botanicals available in
1-22     the United States; and
1-23           WHEREAS, A division of Southern Floral Company, Southern
1-24     Exposure, was established in 1990 and is the number one manufacturer
 2-1     of fresh bouquets in Houston; it also offers a wide variety of dried
 2-2     bouquets, eucalyptus wreaths, and other seasonal items; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Southern Floral Company enjoys a reputation for
 2-4     integrity and high-quality products and service; it also plays
 2-5     an active role in community projects; this year, the company
 2-6     has already assisted the Senate Ladies Club by helping with
 2-7     its Pre-Session Dinner in January and its luncheon with the
 2-8     award-winning floral designer Kirksey B. Gregg on March 10, 1999;
 2-9     now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby commend Southern Floral Company on its
2-12     72 years of success and first-rate service and extend appreciation
2-13     to the company for the assistance it has given the Senate Ladies
2-14     Club and for its positive contributions to the Texas economy; and,
2-15     be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     Southern Floral Company as an expression of esteem from the
2-18     Texas Senate.
