1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 386 1-3 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize the 1-4 State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas for its 1-5 invaluable work in providing protection to the citizens of our 1-6 communities; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Organized in 1876, the State Firemen's and Fire 1-8 Marshals' Association of Texas is the oldest Texas association 1-9 in existence and has provided 123 years of continuous service to 1-10 its members and the State of Texas fire service; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The purpose of the association is to promote, unify, 1-12 represent, and educate members of the fire service community of 1-13 Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, There are more than 1,000 fire departments and more 1-15 than 16,000 individual memberships from the volunteer, industrial, 1-16 and career sectors of the state and more than 100 associate 1-17 memberships from the related fire industry; and 1-18 WHEREAS, An affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, the 1-19 Texas Fire Chiefs Association was organized in 1961 to promote 1-20 the fire service as a profession, to improve the methods of fire 1-21 prevention, protection, and extinguishment, and to maintain high 1-22 standards of professional ethics; its membership is composed of 1-23 over 200 career, volunteer, and industrial fire chiefs and 1-24 associate members; and 2-1 WHEREAS, For the past 123 years, members of the State 2-2 Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas, and for the 2-3 past 38 years, the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, have handled 2-4 their responsibilities with efficiency and dedication to those 2-5 they so conscientiously serve; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Their meritorious work and exemplary devotion to 2-7 their communities have earned the respect and admiration of all 2-8 the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 76th Legislature, hereby commend the State Firemen's and Fire 2-11 Marshals' Association of Texas and the Texas Fire Chiefs 2-12 Association and recognize Wednesday, March 17, 1999, as 2-13 "Firefighter Legislative Day"; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-15 prepared for these distinguished associations as an expression 2-16 of high regard by the Texas Senate. 2-17 Bivins, Moncrief 2-18 Armbrister Harris Ogden 2-19 Barrientos Haywood Ratliff 2-20 Bernsen Jackson Shapiro 2-21 Brown Lindsay Shapleigh 2-22 Cain Lucio Sibley 2-23 Carona Luna Truan 2-24 Duncan Madla Wentworth 2-25 Ellis Nelson West 2-26 Fraser Nixon Whitmire 2-27 Gallegos Zaffirini 2-28 Perry, President of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 2-30 President of the Senate 2-31 I hereby certify that the above 2-32 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-33 on March 17, 1999. 2-34 ______________________________________ 2-35 Secretary of the Senate 2-36 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
