1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 389
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing Claire Lydia Walton on her superior accomplishments
 1-4     as a student at Franklin High School in El Paso; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Claire is a highly talented 10th-grade student
 1-6     who plays first chair French horn and who made all-region and
 1-7     all-area and state band/orchestra this year; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A member of the math club, Claire qualified for
 1-9     state competition in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, and
1-10     in the ninth grade, she placed first and third at a regional math
1-11     club contest; and
1-12           WHEREAS, In the summer of 1998, Claire took a
1-13     calculus course and a philosophy of science course at
1-14     The University of Texas at El Paso and earned an A in both
1-15     subjects; she placed out of pre-calculus into calculus on the
1-16     university's math placement exam, although she had never taken
1-17     a pre-calculus course; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Walton,
1-19     Claire is an exemplary young lady with an engaging personality
1-20     who strives for excellence in all of her endeavors; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Born with arthrogryposis, Claire Walton has never
1-22     allowed her confinement to a wheelchair to deter her from her
1-23     goals, and she is a source of great pride to her family, her
1-24     school, her community, and her state; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     76th Legislature, hereby commend Claire Lydia Walton on her
 2-3     dedication to her work and her outstanding achievements and
 2-4     extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-6     Claire Walton as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
