 1-4                                     of
 1-5                       Margaret McKie Martindale Cape
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of San Antonio
 1-7     in mourning the loss of Margaret McKie Martindale Cape, who died
 1-8     February 10, 1999, at the age of 94; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born June 23, 1904, in Martindale, Texas,
1-10     Margaret McKie Martindale spent her childhood in San Marcos and
1-11     attended the Hockaday School of Dallas and Ward Belmont College
1-12     in Nashville, Tennessee; she married John Dewey Cape in 1926, and
1-13     he preceded her in death; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Margaret was dedicated to her work as a
1-15     homemaker and was an exemplary lady who was respected for her
1-16     many accomplishments and her leadership in the community; and
1-17           WHEREAS, She was a former president of the Bluebird
1-18     Auxiliary of Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, a former member
1-19     of the Battle of Flowers Association, and an honorary residence
1-20     member of the Junior League; and
1-21           WHEREAS, She was a friend and mentor to her grandchildren
1-22     who affectionately called her "Honey," and she was a witty and
1-23     high-spirited individual who loved to play bridge and tell stories;
1-24     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-2     she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth,
 2-3     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, She was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist
 2-5     Church at the time of her death; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Margaret Cape was a devoted wife, mother, and
 2-7     grandmother, who lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves
 2-8     behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family
 2-9     and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-12     bereaved family of Margaret McKie Martindale Cape:  her daughter
2-13     and son-in-law, Margaret "Margie" Cape and Joe Rust; her grandsons,
2-14     Joe Carroll Rust, Jr., and Sergeant John Cape Rust; and two
2-15     great-granddaughters; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-18     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
2-19     do so in memory of Margaret McKie Martindale Cape.
