 1-5                            Nellie Louise Dudley
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Eldorado in mourning the loss of Nellie Louise Dudley, who died
 1-8     February 20, 1999, at the age of 97; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Nellie was born on July 19, 1901, in West Virginia,
1-10     and she and her family moved to East Texas soon afterward; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Nellie Louise married P. S. Dudley in 1919; he
1-12     was a pioneer in the exploration and discovery of oil in the
1-13     East Texas oil fields; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A resourceful woman full of strength, she lived the
1-15     oil-field life with her husband; Mrs. Dudley supported her
1-16     husband in his career and created a loving home for their family;
1-17     they were the proud parents of two daughters, Martha Lee and
1-18     Marylue, both of whom predeceased her; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley, known as Dud, served as drilling
1-20     superintendent for the Texas Company, later known as Texaco,
1-21     and Sun Oil Company; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley lived in many oil camps
1-23     throughout East Texas until he retired in 1953; and
1-24           WHEREAS, They moved to Eldorado in 1960 to be near their
 2-1     family; they enjoyed their retirement years greatly, traveling
 2-2     as members of a travel trailer club and deriving great pleasure
 2-3     from the other members, all of whom were great friends; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, In 1990, Dud passed away, ending a marriage and
 2-5     loving partnership of 71 years; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Nell was a longtime and faithful
 2-7     member of the First United Methodist Church; she also belonged to
 2-8     the Eldorado Women's Club and other civic groups; now, therefore,
 2-9     be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the
2-12     family of Nellie Louise Dudley:  her son-in-law, Ed Meador; and
2-13     her five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and, be it
2-14     further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-16     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-17     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
2-18     do so in memory of Nellie Louise Dudley.
