1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 399 1-3 WHEREAS, On Tuesday, March 16, 1999, the proud citizens of 1-4 Montgomery County will come to the State Capitol to celebrate 1-5 Montgomery County Day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Some of the distinguished groups who will be 1-7 attending include the Community Chamber of Commerce, the Greater 1-8 Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, the South Montgomery 1-9 Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, and the Magnolia Chamber of 1-10 Commerce; the joint project of the Montgomery County Chambers 1-11 will involve a group of over 200 people traveling to Austin; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The beautiful county is covered with timber, and 1-13 part is in Sam Houston National Forest; many of the inhabitants 1-14 work in Houston, and the local economy includes oil production 1-15 and lumber; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Citizens of the county are proud that one of their 1-17 first citizens, Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, helped design the 1-18 Texas Lone Star Flag; Montgomery County was officially designated 1-19 the Birthplace of the Lone Star Flag by the Texas Legislature in 1-20 1997; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Historical places of interest include the Heritage 1-22 Museum in Conroe, the largest town in the county; the museum is 1-23 the restored home of a pioneer timber family, and it was moved to 1-24 its present location in 1987 to create the exhibition; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Located in South Montgomery County, The Woodlands 2-2 is a planned development and many of the residents living there 2-3 also work in the area; the quality of life is excellent, and 2-4 entertainment is provided by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, 2-5 a Tinseltown Movie Theater, and the modern Woodlands Mall; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Opportunities for recreation abound; there is Lake 2-7 Woodlands, and only about 20 miles north is Lake Conroe, where 2-8 boating, fishing, and other water sports are available; it is a 2-9 popular area for tourists as well as weekend cottages and lakeside 2-10 homes; and 2-11 WHEREAS, It is indeed a pleasure and a privilege for 2-12 the Texas Senate to honor this outstanding county and its fine 2-13 citizens; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the delegation coming 2-16 to the State Capitol for Montgomery County Day; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-18 expression of the highest regard and esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-19 Bernsen, Nixon 2-20 Armbrister Harris Ogden 2-21 Barrientos Haywood Ratliff 2-22 Bivins Jackson Shapiro 2-23 Brown Lindsay Shapleigh 2-24 Cain Lucio Sibley 2-25 Carona Luna Truan 2-26 Duncan Madla Wentworth 2-27 Ellis Moncrief West 2-28 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 2-29 Gallegos Zaffirini 2-30 Perry, President of the Senate 2-31 ______________________________________ 2-32 President of the Senate 2-33 I hereby certify that the above 2-34 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on March 16, 1999. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Member, Texas Senate
