 1-4                                     of
 1-5                              Adele Kyle Wilson
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Sonora in mourning the loss of Adele Kyle Wilson,
 1-8     who died February 18, at the age of 88; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born on May 15, 1910, in Pecos, she was the daughter
1-10     of Albert J. and Ninette Barbee Kyle, a prominent Central Texas
1-11     farming family; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Her family donated the agricultural land to create
1-13     Kyle, Texas, a city south of Austin; Adele Kyle's uncle was the
1-14     longtime Dean of Agriculture at Texas A&M University, for whom
1-15     Kyle Field was named; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Adele attended school in Hillsboro; later she
1-17     attended The University of Texas, where she met Duke Wilson; he
1-18     was the son of a Sutton County pioneer ranching family; Adele Kyle
1-19     married Duke Wilson June 15, 1929, in Hillsboro; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Beginning her new life as a rancher's wife in
1-21     Sutton County, she and Duke managed their farms and ranches in
1-22     Sutton, Brewster, and Frio counties, and they established a warm
1-23     and loving home for their two daughters, Nancy and Mary Adele; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The long partnership of Adele and Duke was a
 2-1     mutually supportive one, and their family life was filled with
 2-2     many pleasant memories and everyday activities; he predeceased
 2-3     her in 1975; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson continued to operate farms and ranches
 2-5     in Frio and Sutton counties; a noted civic leader, she was president
 2-6     of the Sonora Parent-Teacher Association and was largely responsible
 2-7     for raising the funds to build Sonora Elementary School; she was a
 2-8     member of the Sonora Woman's Club; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Continually active in her professional associations,
2-10     Adele Wilson was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers'
2-11     Association; she was also a state director of the Independent
2-12     Cattlemen's Association and the Texas Thoroughbred Association;
2-13     and
2-14           WHEREAS, Called Nana by her loved ones, she enjoyed cooking
2-15     for her children, grandchildren, and friends at her home in Sonora,
2-16     where she provided generous Texas hospitality; and
2-17           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Adele Wilson
2-18     was respected for her many accomplishments and was a leader in her
2-19     community; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     76th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the members
2-22     of her family:  her daughters, Nancy Davis and Mary Adele Balch;
2-23     her sister, Tot Cowan; her brother, Major General Wood Kyle; and
2-24     her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and, be it
2-25     further
2-26           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 3-1     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
 3-2     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
 3-3     in memory of Adele Kyle Wilson.
