1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 439 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Reverend Elisha Reginald Green 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Houston in mourning the loss of Reverend Elisha Reginald Green, 1-8 who died recently; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born in Liberty, Texas, Elisha Green accepted Christ 1-10 at an early age and was presented with a license for the ministry 1-11 at the Trinity Valley Baptist Church while in his early teens; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Elisha Reginald earned a bachelor's degree in 1-13 theology at Bishop College and later earned a bachelor of arts 1-14 and a master's degree in education from the University of Houston; 1-15 while attending Bishop College, he married Dorean L. Davis, and the 1-16 couple was blessed with one daughter, Barbara Jean; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In 1938, Reverend Green and his family moved to 1-18 Houston, and he began his longtime service as pastor of Concord 1-19 Baptist Church; under Reverend Green's leadership, the congregation 1-20 grew and an additional lot was purchased to expand the church 1-21 building; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Over the years, Reverend Green ministered faithfully 1-23 to the needs of innumerable Christians; a man of spiritual depth 1-24 and an accomplished theologian, he devoted his time and energy 2-1 unselfishly to the members of his church and to the community; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Reverend Green served as president of the Texas State 2-3 Missionary Baptist Congress of Christian Education and served as 2-4 chairperson for the Houston Area Foreign Mission Drive for a number 2-5 of years; he served as moderator for the Old Landmark District 2-6 Association and as president of the Independence Heights Fellowship 2-7 Churches; he was named Chaplain of the City of Kendleton, Texas; 2-8 and 2-9 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Reverend Green was dedicated 2-10 to his work as a pastor and was respected in the community for his 2-11 many accomplishments; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Reverend Green was a devoted husband, father, and 2-13 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured 2-14 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to 2-17 the bereaved family of Reverend Elisha Reginald Green: his 2-18 sister, Thurma G. Rigmaiden; his grandchildren, Alric C.
