1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 440 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Robert H. Dedman, an outstanding citizen of our 1-5 state, on the occasion of the dedication of the newest 1-6 Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry, which is being named in his honor; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, A native of Arkansas, Robert Dedman graduated from 1-9 The University of Texas at Austin and earned a master of laws 1-10 degree from Southern Methodist University; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A highly successful businessman and entrepreneur, 1-12 Robert Dedman is the founder and chairman of ClubCorp 1-13 International and Franklin Federal Bancorp; Mr. Dedman is also 1-14 a director of Wal-Mart Stores, Incorporated, and NCNB Texas 1-15 Corporation; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Robert Dedman is a well-known philanthropist and 1-17 civic leader who has contributed his time, energy, and funds to 1-18 multiple causes and institutions throughout our state; 3,200 1-19 National Merit Scholars at The University of Texas at Austin have 1-20 been named Dedman Merit Scholars in recognition of the scholarship 1-21 funds he has donated; Dedman College and the Dedman Center for 1-22 Lifetime Sports at Southern Methodist University are named in 1-23 his honor, as well as Dedman Memorial Hospital and Dedman 1-24 Medical Center in Dallas; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Mr. Dedman was inducted into the Texas Business Hall 2-2 of Fame in 1987 and received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2-3 for Texas in 1976 and the Humanitarian of the Year Award in Dallas 2-4 in 1980; and 2-5 WHEREAS, He was also the recipient of the Marketer of the Year 2-6 Award in Dallas in 1986, the State of Israel 40th Anniversary medal 2-7 in 1988, and the Horatio Alger Award in 1989; and 2-8 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman and a 2-9 devoted family man, Robert Dedman is beloved and respected by 2-10 citizens across our state for his invaluable contributions to 2-11 his fellowman and to the fields of business, health, and higher 2-12 education; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 76th Legislature, hereby commend Robert H. Dedman on his 2-15 exceptional generosity and achievements on behalf of our state 2-16 and its citizens; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 Robert H.
