1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 448
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-3     recognize Paula Rae Gates Mitchell, who is an inductee into the
 1-4     1999 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Created by the El Paso Commission on Women in
 1-6     1985, the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame is intended to honor notable
 1-7     women in the city who have made significant contributions to their
 1-8     community; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Division Dean of Health Occupations since 1986,
1-10     Paula Rae Gates Mitchell has been with the El Paso Community
1-11     College District since 1979; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A woman of great experience, she earned her
1-13     bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1973, became a member of
1-14     the United States Army Nurse Corps in 1973, and completed a Nurse
1-15     Clinician Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 1974; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Always seeking to improve her education, she earned
1-17     her doctor of education degree in educational administration from
1-18     New Mexico State University in 1996 with a grade point average of
1-19     4.0; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The recipient of many accolades, Paula Mitchell was
1-21     nominated for the REACH Award in 1987-1988, was nominated and a
1-22     finalist for the Bellwether Award for Instructional Programs, was
1-23     selected for Leadership El Paso membership, and won the Legacy Award
1-24     from Unite El Paso in 1997; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Heavily involved in community activities,
 2-2     Mrs. Mitchell is a member of the El Paso Chapter of the American
 2-3     Cancer Society, is a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the
 2-4     American Legion, Law Enforcement Post 74, and is a member of the
 2-5     El Paso Council of Nurse Executives; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Paula Rae Gates Mitchell on
 2-8     being inducted into the 1999 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame; and, be
 2-9     it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-11     her as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
