1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Barbara Forester Coleman on her recent induction into 1-5 the 1999 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame in the category of public 1-6 service; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The El Paso Hall of Fame was established in 1985 1-8 by the El Paso Commission for Women as an endeavor to provide 1-9 recognition for the area's outstanding women and their many 1-10 contributions to their community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Barbara Coleman is a leading El Paso citizen who is 1-12 noted for her hard work and exceptional accomplishments on behalf 1-13 of the El Paso Independent School District and area children; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A former schoolteacher and Parent-Teacher 1-15 Association president, Barbara has served as a member of the 1-16 Board of Trustees of the El Paso Independent School District 1-17 since 1987; her many years of focusing on education have earned 1-18 her a position as trustee on the Texas Association of School 1-19 Boards; she is also an active member of the American Association 1-20 of University Women and the Home Instruction Pre-School Project 1-21 Advisory Committee; and 1-22 WHEREAS, As a school board member, Barbara has been 1-23 responsible for helping the district to pass a $150 million school 1-24 bond issue to build new schools and refurbish old ones; she has 2-1 structured the board's finance committee to enable it to carefully 2-2 analyze financial statements and monitor the use of taxpayer 2-3 dollars; and 2-4 WHEREAS, In addition to her dedication to the field of 2-5 education, Barbara has raised five children, helped her husband 2-6 to establish Coleman Pharmacies and now serves as its president, 2-7 and has been active in her church, the Historical Society, 2-8 Goodwill Industries, and a host of other community organizations 2-9 and projects; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Barbara was named Mother of the Year in 1974 2-11 and was named First Lady of El Paso in 1998 by Beta Sigma Phi; 2-12 she has been a member of Leadership El Paso and Leadership Texas; 2-13 now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 76th Legislature, hereby commend Barbara Coleman on her 2-16 outstanding achievements and her devotion to young people 2-17 and the field of education and extend congratulations to her 2-18 on her induction into the 1999 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame; 2-19 and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 Shapleigh 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the above 2-26 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-27 on March 22, 1999. 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Secretary of the Senate 2-30 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
