 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 454
 1-3           WHEREAS, For 18 years Tejano legend La Mafia has created and
 1-4     performed a singular brand of music for countless fans throughout
 1-5     the world, and it is indeed a privilege to welcome the members of
 1-6     this internationally renowned group to the State Capitol; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Based in Houston, La Mafia's current
 1-8     lineup includes Oscar De la Rosa, David de la Garza,
 1-9     Armando "Mando" Lichtenberger, Jr., Eutimio "Tim" Ruiz, and
1-10     Michael Aguilar; these notable musicians have recently completed
1-11     their much-anticipated new album, Euforia, which represents yet
1-12     another major breakthrough for the band; and
1-13           WHEREAS, La Mafia's steady stream of hits runs the gamut
1-14     from heart-wrenching ballads to pop-influenced cumbias to rock-laced
1-15     boleros, and the popularity of the band, dubbed "los idolos de
1-16     America," has continued to grow as more and more people flock to
1-17     join the legions who already are ardent fans of these notable
1-18     Texans; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A two-time Grammy Award winner, La Mafia was
1-20     honored for Best Tejano/Mexican American Performance in 1997 and
1-21     1998; the band was also nominated for Best Latin Pop Performance
1-22     in 1995 and has been recognized by numerous organizations and
1-23     associations, both in the United States and abroad; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Music is a truly international language, and by
 2-1     sharing their uplifting melodies and evocative rhythms with the
 2-2     world, the members of La Mafia have made a vital contribution to
 2-3     our musical tapestry while having a positive effect on the lives
 2-4     of people from many different cultures; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-6     76th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the members of La Mafia
 2-7     for their outstanding contributions to the world of music and
 2-8     recognize March 22, 1999, as La Mafia Day at the Capitol; and,
 2-9     be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of La Mafia in commemoration of this
2-12     event and as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
