 1-4                                     of
 1-5                         Winston Buchanan Jones, Sr.
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Houston in mourning the loss of Winston Buchanan Jones, Sr., who
 1-8     died March 1, 1999, at the age of 71; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Jones served in the United States Army receiving
1-10     an honorable discharge; later, he attended Prairie View College,
1-11     Texas Southern University, and Commonwealth College, Mount Carmel
1-12     School of Religion; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a successful entrepreneur who
1-14     established Riverside and Skyline Cab Companies; in the late 1970s,
1-15     he merged his original business to form Sky-Jack Cab Company; an
1-16     exemplary businessman, Mr. Jones was respected in the community for
1-17     his many accomplishments; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a man of integrity, strength, and
1-19     generosity, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not
1-20     be forgotten by those who knew him; and
1-21           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Jones was an active member
1-22     of the Church of Christ in the Third Ward of Houston; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Winston Buchanan Jones, Sr., was a devoted husband
1-24     and father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
 2-1     forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-3     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
 2-4     of Winston Buchanan Jones, Sr.:  his wife, Edith Robins Jones;
 2-5     his children, Brenda Baker, Winifred Fletcher, Regina Jones,
 2-6     Winston Jones, Jr., Michael Jones, Marlo Jones, and Almarie Jones;
 2-7     his grandchildren, Cameron Jones, Fred Winston III, Christian Jones,
 2-8     Cree Hammond, and Iam Johnson; his adopted daughters, Tiffany Jones
 2-9     and Ebony Jones; and his stepsons, Kelvin Criner and Delvin Criner;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-12     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-13     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-14     in memory of Winston Buchanan Jones, Sr.
