 1-5                                 Sam Jorrie
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of San Antonio in mourning the loss of former Bexar County
 1-8     Commissioner Sam Jorrie, who died February 28, 1999, at the age
 1-9     of 79; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born on January 22, 1920, in San Antonio, Mr. Jorrie
1-11     attended Texas A&M University; he was president of Jorrie Furniture
1-12     Company, which was later sold to Lack's; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A prominent businessman, Sam Jorrie was most
1-14     recently involved in real estate development; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, he was elected to the
1-16     Bexar County Commissioners Court in 1956; he was elected to a
1-17     second four-year term in 1960; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Considered a conservative on fiscal issues as a
1-19     commissioner, he was considered a liberal in social legislation;
1-20     and
1-21           WHEREAS, Having served as a director of the Texas Research
1-22     League, Sam Jorrie was an esteemed gentleman who served his city
1-23     well; and
1-24           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished man, Mr. Jorrie
 2-1     was respected for his many accomplishments and was a leader in his
 2-2     community; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Sam Jorrie was a devoted husband, father,
 2-4     grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he leaves memories which
 2-5     will be treasured always by his family and many friends; now,
 2-6     therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     76th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the
 2-9     members of his family:  his wife, Patricia T. Jorrie; his sons,
2-10     Robert Jorrie and Michael Waddy; his daughters, Marilyn Jorrie,
2-11     Melinda Urion, Kathy McBee, Vicky Waddy, and Fran Birmingham; his
2-12     10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-14     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-15     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-16     in memory of Sam Jorrie.
