1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 493 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Houston, Texas, 1-4 on the grand occasion of its 25th anniversary, which is being 1-5 celebrated in April, 1999; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church has its 1-7 roots in a congregation that originated in 1951, and the pastor of 1-8 that first church was Reverend Hoxie Perry, Jr.; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The meeting house was destroyed by fire in 1956, 1-10 and the congregation built a new edifice; Reverend Perry announced 1-11 a plan for expansion to enhance the outreach of the church in 1973; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, In April, 1974, the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist 1-14 Church on Vandalia Way was officially founded; since then, the 1-15 church has been blessed with a growing congregation; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Over the years, the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist 1-17 Church has ministered faithfully to the physical and spiritual needs 1-18 of innumerable Christians; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its 1-20 pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, 1-21 Reverend Doctor James E. Laymond, the church has continued to grow 1-22 and to undertake many worthy projects in the community; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church has 1-24 become an invaluable source of strength for church members during 2-1 their hardships and in times of bereavement; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The celebration of its 25th anniversary is an 2-3 expression of the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission 2-4 and its dedication to tradition and unity among Christians; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 76th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and 2-8 members of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church on the jubilant 2-9 occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-11 the church as a token of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-12 Ellis 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on March 25, 1999. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
