 1-5                               Jennie P. Ruiz
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin in mourning the loss of Jennie P. Ruiz, who died Saturday,
 1-8     March 13, at the age of 85; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A charitable woman, Jennie gave tirelessly to her
1-10     community; her kind, selfless acts were many; collecting donations
1-11     for the March of Dimes and volunteering for the Salvation Army were
1-12     two causes Jennie loved and worked for; Jennie's service to her
1-13     community was recognized on two occasions by the Retired Senior
1-14     Volunteer Program, in 1993, when they celebrated her 20 years of
1-15     service, and in 1997, when they honored her with their Community
1-16     Service Award; and
1-17           WHEREAS, An exemplary organizer in her community, Jennie was
1-18     respected by her neighbors for her help in forming the Neighborhood
1-19     Civic Association; she was a founder of the community health
1-20     volunteers and contributed her time to many public health causes;
1-21     for her devotion to her community, Jennie received the American
1-22     Cancer Society Leadership Award, was named Cataract Support Group
1-23     Outstanding Member, and was honored with the League of United Latin
1-24     American Citizens Outstanding Woman Award; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-2     Jennie gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
 2-3     warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew
 2-4     her; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-6     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 2-7     family of Jennie P. Ruiz:  her daughter, Anna Sanchez; her sons,
 2-8     Victor Ruiz III, Jim V. Ruiz, Johnny P. Ruiz, Santo Ruiz, and
 2-9     Dan Ruiz; her brothers, Mike and Albert Porfirio; her sister,
2-10     Julia LaGrone; her grandchildren, Odessa, Richard, John Luke,
2-11     Mark L., Linda, Victor IV, Christopher, Kevin, Patricia, Jimmy Jr.,
2-12     Michael, Jovanni, Paul, Jovanna, Denise, Erlinda, Julie, Marissa,
2-13     Maria, Monica, Vida Mia, Desiree, Daniel, and Celeste; and her 26
2-14     great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-16     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-17     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-18     in memory of Jennie P. Ruiz.
