1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 512 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Ann Schwarz Goodman on her recent induction into the 1-5 1999 El Paso's Women's Hall of Fame in the category of civic 1-6 leadership; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The El Paso Hall of Fame was established in 1985 1-8 by the El Paso Commission for Women as an endeavor to provide 1-9 recognition for the area's outstanding women and their many 1-10 contributions to their community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A tireless supporter of the El Paso community all 1-12 of her adult life, Ann Goodman has been an invaluable citizen in 1-13 her native El Paso; she has served on countless local fundraising, 1-14 social service, philanthropic, and arts-related boards; Ann helped 1-15 establish El Paso's Arts Resources Department and currently serves 1-16 as Executive Director of the Center for Volunteerism and Nonprofit 1-17 Management; Ann's volunteer commitments to her community are not 1-18 limited to a single interest, but affect the community at large 1-19 and address many quality of life issues; Ann's devotion to El Paso 1-20 is evidenced in her investment of time and energy to become 1-21 bilingual; these language skills, which Ann has worked diligently to 1-22 master, have increased her effectiveness in El Paso's multicultural 1-23 community; through her work, Ann has improved the lives of thousands 1-24 of El Pasoans; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Ann Goodman is a leader in the Jewish community of 2-2 El Paso; she was the second woman to be elected president of Temple 2-3 Mount Sinai and was honored as one of the first two recipients of 2-4 the 100-year-old congregation's prestigious Rodef Shalom Award; she 2-5 is also a former president of the National Council of Jewish Women 2-6 and a recipient of its Hannah Solomon Award; as first woman president 2-7 of the Jewish Federation of El Paso, Ann used the federation's 2-8 resources to provide social, educational, cultural, and counseling 2-9 services open to all El Pasoans regardless of their religious or 2-10 socioeconomic background; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Ann's parents and grandparents cared deeply about 2-12 their El Paso community, and their legacy is continued in Ann's 2-13 devotion to her community; a single mother for nearly 20 years, 2-14 Ann has successfully raised her four children and instilled in 2-15 them her family's desire to serve El Pasoans and her passion for 2-16 living amongst many peoples and cultures; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 76th Legislature, hereby commend Ann Schwarz Goodman on her 2-19 outstanding achievements in the field of civic leadership and 2-20 extend congratulations to her on her induction into the 1999 2-21 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-23 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-24 Shapleigh 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 President of the Senate 2-27 I hereby certify that the above 2-28 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on March 29, 1999. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
