1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 513 1-2 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize the Vega 1-3 Lady Longhorns on the grand occasion of their capturing the state 1-4 Class 1A basketball title after an exciting game against the 1-5 Valley View Lady Eagles on March 6, 1999; and 1-6 WHEREAS, In a game played in Austin, Texas, the Lady 1-7 Longhorns enjoyed the heady experience of ending their season 1-8 of 29-12 with a championship win of 70-64 against the Valley View 1-9 Lady Eagles; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Lady Longhorns won their outstanding victory 1-11 playing in front of an audience of 7,572 in the Erwin Center; Vega 1-12 won its first girls Class 1A basketball state championship in the 1-13 history of the school; and 1-14 WHEREAS, With indomitable fighting spirit and drive, the 1-15 Lady Longhorns played some of the most formidable girls' basketball 1-16 teams in the state, giving Vega exceptional experience in their 1-17 march to victory; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the 1-19 girls on the team: Cami Rea, Kelly Cleavinger, Holly Sunderman, 1-20 Heather Basford, Melissa Meyer, Amanda Selman, Laura Perrin, 1-21 Marla Robinson, Kyla May, Kimberly Artho, Keely Meyer, Stacy Schenk, 1-22 Tina Conn, Lisa Artho, Tiffany Allen, and Mary Alice Brorman and 1-23 their coaches, Justin Shultz and Jan Ayres; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, enthusiasm, and respect 2-1 for the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, the team members 2-2 have brought honor to their school and their community; now, 2-3 therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Vega Lady Longhorns for 2-6 their incomparable championship win in Class 1A basketball; and, 2-7 be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-9 team as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate. 2-10 Bivins 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 President of the Senate 2-13 I hereby certify that the above 2-14 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-15 on March 29, 1999. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Secretary of the Senate 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Member, Texas Senate
