 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 521
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     congratulating Savoy High School, of Savoy Independent School
 1-5     District, for receiving an award from the Texas Successful Schools
 1-6     Award System; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Savoy Independent School District schools are among
 1-8     823 campuses statewide receiving awards for exemplary, recognized,
 1-9     or acceptable performance; these campuses rank in the top 25 percent
1-10     of all campuses in the same comparison group in respect to growth
1-11     on the Texas Learning Index derived from the Texas Assessment of
1-12     Academic Skills (TAAS) reading and mathematics tests; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The standards for earning an award from the Texas
1-14     Successful Schools Award System are based on gains on the Academic
1-15     Excellence Indicator System; the awards are determined by scores
1-16     on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills and the dropout and
1-17     attendance rates; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Savoy High School received an Exemplary rating on
1-19     the Texas Education Agency's accountability system and will receive
1-20     a gift of $602 to be used for the school's academic enrichment; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In order for a school to earn an Exemplary rating,
1-22     at least 90 percent of all students and students in each student
1-23     population group must pass each section of the TAAS; the school must
1-24     have a dropout rate of one percent or less, and have an attendance
 2-1     rate of 94 percent or better; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, This honor demonstrates the talent, dedication, and
 2-3     hard work of the students and members of the faculty at Savoy High
 2-4     School; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The award also reflects the superior leadership of
 2-6     this school's principal, Herb Youngblood, and the united efforts of
 2-7     the administrators, teachers, and students to meet the challenges
 2-8     required for academic excellence; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     76th Legislature, hereby commend Savoy High School for meeting
2-11     the criteria established for an award from the Texas Successful
2-12     Schools Award System and for bringing honor to the school
2-13     district and to the community; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15     Savoy High School as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
