 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 544
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing Mary Doxie Eppright of Austin, Texas, on the joyous
 1-5     occasion of her 100th birthday on April 21, 1999; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Born April 21, 1899, Mary Doxie had eight
 1-7     siblings; her parents, Spencer and Mary Jane Doxie, died when she
 1-8     was two years old, and she and her siblings were raised by their
 1-9     aunt and uncle who had five children of their own; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Mary married Ernest Eppright, and the couple
1-11     lived on a farm near Manor, Texas; they were blessed with three
1-12     children, Ernest, Henry, and Gertrude, four grandchildren, three
1-13     great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Having reached the age of 100, Mary has been
1-15     privileged to witness events most of us only read about in history
1-16     books; and
1-17           WHEREAS, During her lifetime, she has witnessed two world
1-18     wars, the invention of television, and the landing of astronauts on
1-19     the moon; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Today, she enjoys reminiscing and takes pleasure
1-21     in the companionship of her family and friends; she loves to sing
1-22     and enjoys visiting with her son, Henry, who is retired from the
1-23     military and civil service; she attends Mount Zion Baptist Church;
1-24     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
 2-2     Mary is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her
 2-3     enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of
 2-6     Mary Eppright in extending best wishes to her and congratulations
 2-7     on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-9     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
