 1-3                                  In Memory
 1-4                                     of
 1-5                         The Honorable LeRoy LaSalle
 1-6           WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable LeRoy LaSalle of Carthage
 1-7     on December 26, 1998, at the age of 78, brought a great loss to the
 1-8     family and many friends of this remarkable man; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born January 12, 1920, in Illinois, Mr. LaSalle was
1-10     a distinguished graduate of The University of Texas School of Law,
1-11     where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Chancellors,
1-12     and in 1946 and 1947 served as editor of the Texas Law Review;
1-13     and
1-14           WHEREAS, He worked for many years as a respected attorney
1-15     and was a veteran of World War II, during which he served his
1-16     nation with distinction in the United States Army Air Corps; he was
1-17     twice appointed to fill vacated judgeships, first in 1964 when
1-18     he assumed the post of Panola County judge, a position he held
1-19     until 1970, and then again in 1994 when he took over as Panola
1-20     County court-at-law judge; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Mr. LaSalle was inducted into the Texas Highway
1-22     Association's Roadhands Hall of Honor, and his diligent work in
1-23     behalf of county highway expansion was rewarded in 1982 when a
1-24     portion of Loop 436 was designated LaSalle Parkway in his honor;
 2-1     he also served as president of the Panola County Better Highways
 2-2     Association from 1968 to 1986, earning that organization's title
 2-3     of Mr. Highway in 1996; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, This respected gentleman also donated his time
 2-5     and talents as the men's class Sunday school teacher at First
 2-6     United Methodist Church and as a past president of the Carthage
 2-7     Rotary Club, which designated him a Paul Harris Fellow; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Although LeRoy LaSalle will be deeply missed,
 2-9     his remarkable spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of
2-10     all those fortunate enough to have known him, and it is indeed
2-11     fitting to honor his memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of the
2-14     Honorable LeRoy LaSalle and extend sincere condolences to the
2-15     members of his family:  his wife, Addine G. LaSalle; his stepson
2-16     and stepdaughter-in-law, Ken and Belinda Andrus; his stepdaughter,
2-17     Judy Robbins; his eight grandchildren; and his many other relatives
2-18     and friends; and, be it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-20     prepared for the members of his family as an expression of
2-21     deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate
2-22     adjourns this day, it do so in memory of LeRoy LaSalle.
