1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 557
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
 1-3     in welcoming Andrea Cox, Elizabeth Beights, Robert Todd, and
 1-4     Becky Creel to the State Capitol on April 6, 1999, on the Awesome
 1-5     Austin Adventure; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Selected for the trip from the O. L. Slaton
 1-7     magnet junior high school in Lubbock, Texas, the students were
 1-8     picked after writing essays answering a question about why they
 1-9     should be selected to observe Senator Robert Duncan and the
1-10     Texas Legislature; and
1-11           WHEREAS, In addition, the requirements were that students be
1-12     interviewed, have high citizenship marks, and have the approval of
1-13     their parents and teachers; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The faculty sponsors are Kay Geiger, who teaches
1-15     ninth-grade Pre-Advanced Placement World Geography and Damon Rodgers,
1-16     who teaches seventh-grade Texas History; and
1-17           WHEREAS, This trip is intended to give the participants the
1-18     opportunity to observe the workings of state government in person
1-19     and provide an important learning experience; now, therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
1-21     76th Legislature, hereby greet these promising young citizens as
1-22     they come to see state government in action; and, be it further
1-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
1-24     the group as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the
 2-1     Texas Senate.
