1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 558
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing Ibra Lee Morris Jones of Houston, Texas, on the joyous
 1-4     occasion of her 105th birthday on April 4, 1999; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born April 4, 1894, Ibra Morris was raised in
 1-6     Louisiana; she married Blanchard Jones, who is now deceased, and
 1-7     moved to Houston; the couple was blessed with four children,
 1-8     Blanche Mae Weathersby, the late Eric Artich Jones, Jewel Flint,
 1-9     and Wilfred D. Jones, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren,
1-10     and 20 great-great-grandchildren; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Having reached the age of 105, Ibra has been
1-12     privileged to witness events most of us only read about in history
1-13     books; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Ibra is one of the oldest black women living in
1-15     Houston, and during her lifetime, she has witnessed two world wars,
1-16     the invention of television, and the landing of astronauts on the
1-17     moon; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Today, Ibra enjoys reminiscing and takes pleasure
1-19     in the companionship of her friends and family; she is celebrating
1-20     her birthday with a reception on April 3, 1999, at the Masonic Hall
1-21     Lodge in Houston; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
1-23     Ibra is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her
1-24     enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     76th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of
 2-3     Ibra Lee Morris Jones in extending best wishes to her and
 2-4     congratulations on the grand occasion of her 105th birthday;
 2-5     and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-7     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
