1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 566
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes pride in recognizing
 1-3     April 8, 1999, as "GO TEXAN" day at the Capitol in honor of the
 1-4     significant role Texas agriculture has played in our history and
 1-5     the economy of our state and the unveiling of the "GO TEXAN"
 1-6     Program established by the Texas Department of Agriculture to
 1-7     promote Texas agricultural products; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Agriculture is the state's second largest industry,
 1-9     and Texas is the second leading state in the nation in agricultural
1-10     cash receipts, earning nearly $15 billion a year, and agriculture
1-11     employs one in five working Texans; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The "GO TEXAN" Program will enhance the marketing
1-13     of Texas agricultural products through a partnership between
1-14     the Texas Department of Agriculture and producers, commodity
1-15     organizations, cooperatives and other organizations, and small
1-16     businesses to increase consumer awareness and expand markets for
1-17     Texas agricultural products; now, therefore, be it
1-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
1-19     76th Legislature, hereby recognize all Texans associated with
1-20     Texas agriculture and the "GO TEXAN" Program and recognize
1-21     April 8, 1999, as "GO TEXAN" day at the Capitol; and, be it further
1-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
1-23     prepared in honor of the Texas agricultural industry and the
1-24     "GO TEXAN" Program as an expression of appreciation by the
 2-1     Texas Senate.
