1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 567 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas recognizes that 1-3 illegal underage drinking has claimed the lives of too many young 1-4 Texans and has severely impaired the well-being of countless others; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, Curbing violations due to driving while intoxicated 1-7 and reducing the prevalence of underage drinking are two critical 1-8 issues our Texas communities must address; the Shattered Dreams 1-9 program aims to do just that; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Because underage drinking often leads to disaster 1-11 and sorrow, developers of the Shattered Dreams program fervently 1-12 believe that Drinking and Driving Ends All Dreams and have adopted 1-13 the acronym D.E.A.D. to convey this message; their goal is to 1-14 educate young people about the dangers of underage drinking and 1-15 driving through a powerful and dramatic experience; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Many resources have been committed to preventing 1-17 alcohol abuse by Texans under the age of 21; all Texans should aid 1-18 this endeavor by advocating safer and healthier alcohol-consumption 1-19 norms for young Texans; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Members of Anderson High School's Students Against 1-21 Destructive Decisions have chosen to present the Shattered Dreams 1-22 program; they believe their goal, which is to help students overcome 1-23 destructive decisions like drinking while underage and driving, to 1-24 be best achieved through the Shattered Dreams presentation; and 2-1 WHEREAS, May 5-6, 1999, will be designated as Shattered 2-2 Dreams Program Day at Anderson High School in Austin, Texas; 2-3 the Shattered Dreams program and the Students Against Destructive 2-4 Decisions urge all students of Anderson to work together to end 2-5 underage drinking; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 76th Legislature, hereby commend the Shattered Dreams program 2-8 and Anderson High's Students Against Destructive Decisions on their 2-9 efforts to stem alcohol-related violations and tragedies caused by 2-10 underage drinking; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a 2-12 memento of this important occasion. 2-13 Barrientos 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on April 7, 1999. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
