 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 573
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing McKinney Municipal Airport, which was recently
 1-5     selected as the 1999 Outstanding Reliever Airport of the Year;
 1-6     and
 1-7           WHEREAS, McKinney Municipal Airport is the only publicly
 1-8     owned airport in Collins County, the fifth fastest growing county
 1-9     in the United States; the airport helps to take care of the extra
1-10     burden imposed on the area by the extensive growth in population
1-11     north of Dallas; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Described by the Wall Street Journal as
1-13     the airport in Texas to support your business needs, the McKinney
1-14     Municipal Airport has played a major role in attracting development
1-15     in the city and surrounding communities; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The airport was a deciding factor in the move to
1-17     McKinney by both Montgomery KONE Elevator Company and United
1-18     American Insurance Company, and the airport is a vital tool in
1-19     the City of McKinney's effort to attract companies that generate
1-20     business aircraft and that create revenue from property taxes and
1-21     airport fees; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In order to attract more corporate clients,
1-23     the City of McKinney and the McKinney Economic Development
1-24     Corporation are making major infrastructure improvements to
 2-1     the airport, such as road and taxiway extensions and expansion
 2-2     of water, sewer, and drainage lines; the city is also funding the
 2-3     expansion of the airport entrance road and constructing an Airport
 2-4     Rescue Fire Fighting facility; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, McKinney Aerospace, a company that rebuilds
 2-6     the interiors of company jets, is planning to build a 63,000
 2-7     square-foot hangar/office facility, and Texas Instruments, a
 2-8     Fortune 500 company, is relocating its Corporate Flight
 2-9     Department to the McKinney Municipal Airport; several other
2-10     Fortune 500 companies concerned about traffic at other airfields
2-11     have made inquiries and are considering relocation to McKinney;
2-12     and
2-13           WHEREAS, The City of McKinney hired its first full-time
2-14     airport manager in 1997 and is currently participating with
2-15     the Aviation Division of the Texas Department of Transportation
2-16     in the Terminal Building Program; the terminal facility will house
2-17     airport administration and a United States Customs Office; now,
2-18     therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-20     76th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of McKinney
2-21     and the corporate leaders who have supported the development
2-22     and improvement of the McKinney Municipal Airport and extend
2-23     congratulations to the airport on earning the title of 1999
2-24     Outstanding Reliever Airport of the Year; and, be it further
2-25           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-26     McKinney Municipal Airport as an expression of esteem from the
 3-1     Texas Senate.
