1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 574 1-2 WHEREAS, Since 1973, the Texas Council for the Humanities, 1-3 a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, has 1-4 cultivated our rich cultural heritage, our civic spirit, and our 1-5 connections to each other; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Council for the Humanities has been a 1-7 force in fostering public understanding and appreciation of Texas' 1-8 participation in the global community and enlarging our awareness 1-9 of the role the Lone Star State can play; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Over the course of the past 25 years, the Texas 1-11 Council for the Humanities has funded more than 1,500 grant 1-12 proposals from libraries, museums, colleges, universities, and 1-13 other cultural organizations in Texas with $9.1 million, matched 1-14 by sponsor cost-share and private donations totaling nearly 1-15 $26 million; and 1-16 WHEREAS, These grants have supported organizations in the 1-17 largest metropolitan areas and in the smallest towns for programs 1-18 that preserve community heritage and promote cultural understanding; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, This commendable organization also provides 1-21 resources, workshops, classroom materials, school exhibits, and 1-22 technological resources for Texas elementary and secondary teachers; 1-23 and 1-24 WHEREAS, With Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities Awards, 2-1 the Texas Council for the Humanities recognizes teachers who are 2-2 creative in bringing foreign language, history, social studies, and 2-3 English language arts to their classrooms; and 2-4 WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Texas Council for the Humanities 2-5 has fostered ideas and values that form strong communities and 2-6 nourish an appreciation for our history, literature, and 2-7 philosophies; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 76th Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Council for the Humanities 2-10 for 25 years of service to the citizens of the Lone Star State; and, 2-11 be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-13 for the governing board of the Texas Council for the Humanities as 2-14 an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate. 2-15 Zaffirini 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on April 8, 1999. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
