 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 589
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Institute of County Government was created
 1-4     in 1969 by the 61st Texas Legislature to be a part of the
 1-5     Texas Agricultural Extension Service of the Texas A&M University
 1-6     System; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Institute of County Government was created to
 1-8     be a source of objective, dependable, and directly attainable
 1-9     information which may be utilized by county officials in conducting
1-10     the business of county government and for local, area, and statewide
1-11     short courses, seminars, and conferences; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Presidents of all of the Texas county officials'
1-13     professional associations actively serve as an advisory board to
1-14     the institute; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The Institute of County Government has had a
1-16     permeating influence since its creation in almost every movement
1-17     constructive to the growth and development of county government in
1-18     Texas; and
1-19           WHEREAS, This admirable program seeks to provide a learning
1-20     experience for the Texas county officials, to acquire knowledge,
1-21     and to fulfill legislative continuing education mandates to enable
1-22     them to become self-directed, informed, productive, and contributing
1-23     members of their county government administration; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The program undoubtedly could not have achieved the
 2-1     success that it has today were it not for the service of its
 2-2     coordinator, faculty, and staff, who have given generously of their
 2-3     time, talents, energies, and resources to the county officials of
 2-4     Texas, along with the county officials who served to nurture,
 2-5     advise, and ensure that the institute served the dynamic needs of
 2-6     all county officials in Texas; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, the Institute of
 2-8     County Government has developed a strong and positive relationship
 2-9     with Texas county officials and through its innovative and inspiring
2-10     programs continues to build character, to develop competence, and
2-11     to instill the ethical values that have made our state strong and
2-12     great; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     76th Legislature, hereby commend the V. G. Young Institute of
2-15     County Government of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service on
2-16     its 30th anniversary and recognize the many county officials who
2-17     have learned from and worked to make the program a success; and, be
2-18     it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That official copies of this Resolution be prepared
2-20     for the administration of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service,
2-21     The Texas A&M University System, and the V. G. Young Institute of
2-22     County Government as a token of the appreciation of this Senate for
2-23     the exceptional service of this program to Texas county officials
2-24     and all Texans.
