1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 591
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
 1-3     pleasure announcing Henry Aaron Day, which will be held on
 1-4     June 12, 1999, in one of Texas' most beautiful athletic arenas,
 1-5     The Ballpark in Arlington; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Ballpark in Arlington is proud to honor such an
 1-7     illustrious baseball veteran; indeed, Henry Aaron is a legend in
 1-8     baseball history; his extraordinary talent and abundant enthusiasm
 1-9     for the game resulted in an astounding lifetime of achievements; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born February 5, 1934, in Mobile, Alabama, Henry's
1-11     stellar career began in 1952; he first played for Eau Claire,
1-12     Jacksonville, and Milwaukee, before signing with the Atlanta
1-13     Braves from 1966 to 1974; in 1975, Henry Aaron returned to
1-14     Milwaukee to play his final games; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Henry Aaron's statistics attest to his brilliant
1-16     ball playing; he holds more major league batting records than
1-17     any other player in history, which include the following:  Most
1-18     Runs Batted In, Lifetime, 2,297; Most Long Hits, Lifetime, 1,477;
1-19     Most Total Bases, Lifetime, 6,856; Most Home Runs, Lifetime, 755;
1-20     and
1-21           WHEREAS, Henry's 23 years of service in major league
1-22     baseball saw countless notable accomplishments; he was the
1-23     first player to compile both 3,000 career hits and more than
1-24     500 home runs; Henry played in 24 All-Star games and in two
 2-1     World Series; he was named National League Most Valuable Player
 2-2     in 1957 and Sporting News Player of the Year in 1956 and 1963; in
 2-3     1982, Henry Aaron was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Henry Aaron's spectacular career certainly merits a
 2-5     day of celebration at The Ballpark in Arlington; now, therefore,
 2-6     be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     76th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to The Ballpark
 2-9     in Arlington for a successful Henry Aaron Day on June 12, 1999;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-12     expression of good will from the Texas Senate.
