 1-4                                     of
 1-5                              Emmett L. Johnson
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin and Georgetown in mourning the loss of Emmett L. Johnson,
 1-8     who died April 4, 1999, at the age of 63; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A resident of Austin for 32 years, Emmett Johnson
1-10     began his successful career with IBM in Lexington, Kentucky, and
1-11     transferred to Austin in 1967; he retired from IBM in 1990 after
1-12     34 years of loyal service; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Emmett was employed as
1-14     a car guard by the Texas State Senate, where he became well known
1-15     for his gregarious personality and engaging smile and where he made
1-16     many deep and lasting friendships; and
1-17           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, Emmett
1-18     was respected for his many accomplishments and was beloved by all
1-19     who knew him; and
1-20           WHEREAS, An active community leader, he was a member of
1-21     Mount Vernon Lodge Number 14 AF & AM in Georgetown, Kentucky, the
1-22     Masonic Lodge Number 227 in Round Rock, Texas, and the Scottish Rite
1-23     Temple and Ben Hur Shrine Temple; he was a past president of the
1-24     SREKOJ Clown Unit and of the Ben Hur Lizzyteers; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Emmett was dedicated to his
 2-2     work as a clown, and his uplifting spirit and twinkling eyes touched
 2-3     the lives of innumerable children; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, compassion, and
 2-5     generosity, Emmett gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his
 2-6     wisdom, warmth, and sense of humor will not be forgotten by those
 2-7     who knew him; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Emmett Johnson was a devoted husband, father, and
 2-9     grandfather who lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind
2-10     memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
2-11     friends; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-14     bereaved family of Emmett L. Johnson:  his wife of 43 years,
2-15     Michaeleen Johnson; his daughters and son-in-law, Emily Johnson
2-16     and Paula and Larry Herrin; his mother, Pauline Underwood; and his
2-17     six grandchildren and great-grandson; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-19     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-20     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
2-21     so in memory of Emmett L. Johnson.
