1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 642 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Coach Lee Williams of O. D. Wyatt High School in 1-4 Fort Worth, Texas, who was recently selected the 1998 Track and 1-5 Field Coach of the Year for the State of Texas by the National 1-6 Federation of Coaches Association; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The outstanding coach has also been nominated for 1-8 the national coach of the year award; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Coach Williams led the Wyatt boys to the University 1-10 Interscholastic League Class 5A State Championship; he also 1-11 assembled the national record-setting sprint relay and the 4x200 1-12 meter relay teams; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The team members are: Sylvester Baty, D'Juan Bivins, 1-14 Michael Franklin, Monte Clopton, Kemon Rodgers, Milton Wesley, 1-15 DeMario Wesley, and Dee Williams; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The members of his team are the national record 1-17 holders in the 4x100 meter relay run in 39.99 seconds in the 1998 1-18 Regional Track Meet, and the 4x100 meter relay run in 39.76 seconds 1-19 in the 1998 State Track Meet; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Under the expert guidance of Coach Williams, the 1-21 O. D. Wyatt High School team is the only one in United States 1-22 history ever to run under 40 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The track team from O. D. Wyatt High School is also 1-24 the only high school team to run the 4x100 meter relay under 40 2-1 seconds five different times; on May 2, 1998, the relay team 2-2 members set a national record with their time of 39.99 seconds, 2-3 and on May 16, 1998, they set a national record with their time of 2-4 39.81 seconds; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The 4x200 meter relay team members set national 2-6 records on May 30, 1998, with a time of 1:23.31 and on 2-7 June 20, 1998, with a time of 1:23.69; certainly Coach Williams 2-8 is worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Coach Lee Williams on 2-11 his selection as 1998 Track and Field Coach of the Year for 2-12 the State of Texas and extend best wishes to him for further 2-13 success; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-15 as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate. 2-16 Moncrief 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on April 14, 1999. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
